The label's first releases in 1983 featured
pianist Warren Bernhardt, Jay Leonhart,
and the group Flim & the BB's. These were the first
non-classical recordings released on compact disc. DMP was one of the few
labels to release commercial DAT recordings, was at the forefront of
introducing numerous digital recording technologies, and was a pioneer in the
Super Audio CD (SACD) digital audio format. DMP issued the
first multichannel SACD, Sacred Feast.
Since 1983 DMP has been producing high quality recordings
for jazz lovers and audiophiles alike working with lesser known and underappreciated
great musicians. In a world of over compressed and over processed
recordings the DMP live minimalist recording approach captures all the nuances
and natural dynamics using the most direct and pristine electronic signal path possible.
The result is a refreshing and honest representation of great musicians playing
music together in the same room at the same time.
