As extraordinary as CH Precision USB input is, the combination of the D1 and C1 makes for the best digital playback I have heard (along with prominent reviewers).   
They also do replace a preamplifier. If desired, the C1 can be fitted with an optional Analog IN board to add an extra analog input (not included).
