The advent of the OTL was a monumental achievement but damping and impedance mismatches were by-products.  David Berning pioneered and patented
solutions to the issues of load tolerance and heat dissipation.  It's the ONLY solution in its class this side of $75,000.

The Quad Z utilizes radio frequency re-mapping to circumvent
the stresses of heat generating power consumption.  Since the audio signal rides a
carrier instead of a transformer there is nothing to distort the signal.  This allows for a better than 25:1 turns ratio.

So the output tubes can work with lower current and higher voltage.  The lower
current greatly prolongs tube life while the voltage capacity remains largely
unaffected.  
 Re-mapping using radio frequency instead of an output transformer is the genius of David Berning. 

So only 220 watts per channel with four tubes per channel. You may experience more
than 20,000 hours  of tube life!  That could outlast your mortgage!!!  My original 33JV6
tubes probably have fewerthan 1,000 hours of usage.  And you can
easily find them online for less than ten bucks a piece.
