On November 8, 1887, Emile Berliner, an immigrant from Berlin, Germany working in Washington, D.C., patented a successful system for sound recording. Berliner was the first inventor to stop recording on cylinders and start recording on flat disks or records. Similar to Berliner's gramophone horn is the Viking Acoustics Horn.

Berlin 1887 is the perfect amalgamation of the original Berlin R, and the Berlin R Mk-II. The new cabinet is in solid artisan woods with old world straight-line dovetail construction we call "Norse-lock" cabinetry.  the cabinet has a squared form-factor unlike the curved cabinets of past Berlin R and Mk-II. the artisan wood-work will show through in every tiny detail. As before heirloom construction make each pair a lasting audio heirloom.

Berlin 1887 with perfected sonics;and bass-slam that's impossible for a loudspeaker of this size. The horn is the perfect logarithmic form and nature's most perfect acoustic amplifier. The horn as before is used for the bass-vent (bass-horn) and augment the tweeter as a wave-guild at the same time. The horn is of benefit to bass giving bass sonics as much as a 5DB gain in the lowest registers as well as increased overall SPL's from the lowest to the highest frequencies.

Berlin 1887 horn-loading is totally unique to high-end audio. there is no compression, no exaggerated sound, no honk, or edgy high-frequency beaming just lifelike sound and the large, live, sound-stage that horns are so well known for. Berlin 1887 like every loudspeaker we've produced has a tone-wood resonating instrument within. This innovation is used to preserve acoustic energy within the cabinet, improve bass and give a palpability to the sound reproduced.
