Philosophy is the most important aspect of any design. l-, CAT's philosophy is to design our products to neither I add to, nor detract from, the music. 'We never attempt to cover up a design problem with another problem, nor to introduce a supposedly complementary problem to "synergize" with it. Two wrongs do not make a right. OnIy the eradication of the problem is correct. TheJL5 was designed to bring the famous CAT quality into a smaller more convenient chassis and make tube biasing much easier. The JL5 uses the same driver tube technology as THE STATEMENT amplifier. This driver is specifically optimized for the high current KT120 tube but also yields superior results with the venerable 6550/KT88 tube. The newJl5, "baby CAT", delivers the famous "drive anything' sound of its bigger brothers, in fact it's fully competitive with the older 6550 version of the big JL2. Triode purity, transparency, and vibrancy that surpasses even the most refined low power single ended triode amplifiers combined with brute force current delivery exceeding all other tube amps results in an amplifier which will force you to reevaluate your reference standards. POWER SUPPLY  The power transformer is encased in a separate nickel plated steel housing to contain the magnetic field.  The isolation transformer eliminates entry of AC power line noise into the amp, yielding greater benefits than add-on conditioners without any of their sonic drawbacks or expense.    Slow Filament Power-Up extends tube life greatly.  The Quadruple Cascaded Audio Power Supply uses time compensated zero feedback MOSFETs and vacuum tubes to deliver unequaled dynamic contrast, resolution and sound stage realism Circuitry Pure Ttiode audio Circuitry produces tonally natural music by eliminating the partition noise inherent in pentode designs and the resulting noise intermodulation ('grain').    Low feedback (about 7dB) properly compensated design eliminates the tonal hardness of high feedback and or improperly compensated designs while yielding more consistent sound quality. Ultra-wide open loop in-circuit bandwidth of the output transformer enables operation of the amp's closed-loop response entirely within the open loop response, eliminating any requirement to use high feedback to force the output stage to perform beyond its natural capability.    Massive 151b. output transformers allow the magnetics to operate at maximum linearity while still maintaining extremely low bass capability.    Unprecedented stability into capacitive loads. BLACK PATH* Just as an audio system is no better than its weakest link, an audio component is no better than its weakest part ln the case of most audio components today, hat part is the capacitor. Undoubtedly, the most serious problem with capacitors is the issue of dielectric absorption. ln simple terms, this means that the dielectric material absorbs part of the musical signal as it passes through, then re-releases that signal later at a time dictated by its own properties. The sonic result of this time smear is a low-level foggy haze. Of course, this detracts from the initial intensity of the music and also veils much of the low-level detail. Audiophile capacitors minimize this problem by using low-loss dielectrics, such as Teflon or Polypropylene. Such materials just absorb a "smidgen" of the musical signal as it passes through, and drives the 'foggy haze' down to 60dB below the music. it's a solution, but it's far from ideal. At Convergent Audio Technology, we're not big on compromise- So we decided to develop our own no-compromise solution to the problem. introducing the Convergent Audio Technology BLACK PATH capacitor. To create it we developed a novel new approach to reducing dielectric absorption in the audio band. The Black Pathil capacitor utilizes a film with a highly convoluted arrangement of the long-chain molecules. This greatly slows down the absorption rate of fast-moving signals (i.e. those at 2 Hz or above) and then also slows down the re-release of energy back into the signal. This means that the audio signal passes through with significantly lower losses to the dielectric. Additionally, this greatly attenuated energy released back into the signal is well below the audio band leaving the music pure and clear. The result is music which comes through in its entirety, with not even that "smidgen" taken away. Large-scale dynamics are astounding, and small-scale microdynamics allows the passion of the performance to breath. Moreover, since that'foggy haze' has been eliminated, a wealth of previously obscured low-level information is clearly revealed. More simply put the music speaks with a direct naturalness which you have previously experienced only from live performances. The BLACK PATH  will become your path
