This amplifier can be used with a cd player and/or other media players by connecting those components via, the (2) RCA inputs or 3.5mm stereo input.  I used the 30-pin iPod dock a few times when I first purchased the amp, but opted for connecting other components such as; cd player and an Apple Mac mini via, the RCA inputs.  I tested the included speakers to make sure they worked when I first purchased the amp and never used them again because I preferred to use my Paradigm Atom Monitor speakers.  I just purchased a pair of KEF LS50 speakers and this amp powers them with no problem!  The vacuum tubes have never been replaced as I am the original owner.  You will be amazed at the sound this amp produces!  It has an incredible sound as it is a hybrid amp utilizing a vacuum tube preamp and a solid-state power amp.  You can find an Audio Advisor informative video about this amp on YouTube.
