This MARANTZ 500 solid state, stereo amplifier is serial number 1465 of the 1000 (numbering started with 1000) that were made – This unit would have been made around 1974. It’s COMPLETELY ORIGINAL and in EXCELLENT condition. Please examine the photos – they are part of the description.

Don't be fooled by the Audiogon Bluebook - the prices of MANY previous sales of 500's were due to units with catastrophic problems - some were sold NOT WORKING for PARTS. We've previously sold a couple of these for MORE than this listing even though they were inferior to this one. This is a MAGIFICENT, fully operational, wonderful sounding unit guaranteed to appreciate over time.

This 500 includes an original carton with all internal packing specifically designed to securely ship the 500.

PROFESSORMIKE lives close enough to BOB HOVLAND that this 500 was recently thoroughly checked by BOB. He reported that it met or exceeded the original factory specs. He also calibrated the meters and cleaned all the contacts. P.S. If you didn’t know: BOB HOVLAND worked as an engineer for Marantz and is THE DESIGNER of the Model 500.

NOTE: the fan produces a very slight sound. If the amp is seated on a solid, non-vibrating stand, the sound is inaudible even with music at very low levels.

There are a couple other 500’s currently for sale on the internet. We’ve seen them all and they’ve ALL been modified and/or aren’t operating properly and/or don’t look as good, don’t include the cosmetic door for the faceplate and don’t include an original 500 shipping carton.
