This is Audio Research's classic amplifier that established their name in the home HI-Fi industry. It's a hybrid tube/solid-state amp with A/B circuitry. I bought it because it makes guitar sound very sweet.  I found it does very well on vocals and any other instruments made of wood too -- including piano.  This amp is a favorite of guitar players because it has 4, 8, and 16 ohm outputs. When these musicians go pro, they add more VT-60's rather than get a larger amp; this way they don't lose "their sound." One of the output terminal blocks has a piece missing from one of the thin plastic fins that separate the connections. The main power switch has been replaced. The primary transformer was replaced with a new one from Audio Research. A few years back, I had all but the smallest of capacitors upgraded to high resolution Auricaps. In many cases, advanced technology allowed two capacitors in parallel to be replaced by one with twice the capacitance. The 6550 tubes have about half their life left. In the last two photos below, the tubes have been removed and I've marked the power tubes with blue painter's tape. The tubes have been marked with the numbers on the tape and will be shipped separately. You can see a repaired trace in the close-up of the area between the two semiconductors next to the #2 socket. The brown striped resistor between the repaired trace and the #2 socket is one of four sacrificial resistors that AR uses in place of fuses. There is one for each power tube. If any of the tubes short, these resistors blow quicker than a fuse. It is evident in the picture that a trace had to be repaired after a hot piece of resistor damaged it when the tube shorted.   I replaced the 6922 tubes shortly after I bought the amp about 10 years ago.  They seemingly last forever. Original manual included. I purchased an Audio Research VS-115 because I wanted more slam. I was disappointed when I received it because I didn't get more slam; I only got a little more detail  The lack of slam turned out to be a weakness in my pre-amp. I probably wouldn't be selling the VT-60 if I had known.

Amp will ship from San Carlos, CA, USA.
