Luxman’s MQ-88 is a return to Luxman’s roots, as one of the oldest tube amplifier manufacturers in the world. The reputation is well earned. John Marks from Stereophile reviewed this unit (https://www.stereophile.com/content/fifth-element-71-page-2) with Luxman's C-600f which we also have listed for sale here at Audiogon.
Later Luxman released MQ-88u to replace their MQ-88 but prefer MQ-88 for three reasons:
1. MQ-88 has twice the output of MQ-88u (MQ-88 is 40-50 watts vs MQ-88u is 20-25 watts),
2. MQ-88 was made in Japan and used local parts but MQ-88u involved more Chinese parts sourcing,
3. MQ-88 was a return to Luxman’s roots, as one of the oldest tube amplifier manufacturers in the world. Superior build quality compared to their MQ-88u.

Questions for the seller |
---|
What is the year of manufacture and what tubes are supplied with the amp? Tubes are Sovtek. KT88. We have had this unit for approximately 8 years |
Is it possible to run two of these in mono, somehow? To bridge? Good evening Mr. Peluso,
Yes, the amps can be bridged. Double the output, just needs a wiring strap. The latter is easily put together.
We have the MQ-88 in our family rooms driving Graham LS5/9 - scary good; wonderful mid-range magic, utterly musical; makes you forget about the equipment & get lost in the music.
cheers,
Philip O'Hanlon |
