Grommes PHI-26 Tube Preamp, Headphone Amp, Integrated Amp

Up for sale is a very rare Grommes PHI-26. Less than 100 made. Second owner.
Very good condition with a minor knick on the right top edge. Tubes: 2 - 6BQ5/EL84, 2 - 6U8A, 1 - 6N1P included.
The unique Grommes PHI-26 amplifier was designed to be very low in the distortions that the human ear is sensitive to. Other amplifiers can be found that have less total harmonic distortion but it will not be very easy to find an amplifier with lower audible distortions than this amplifier. It was designed to cleanly reproduce the complex waveforms of music more so than the steady-state waveforms typical of lab tests.
The Grommes PHI-26 amplifier has 2 stages per channel. The first stage is an Alan Kimmel-style Mu Stage (“mu” means constant current). This is the only voltage gain stage in the amplifier and doubles as a Line Stage. This type of stage was chosen for its exceptional sound quality and performance. The self-biased single ended output stage is a pentode or triode stage depending on the setting of the output mode switch. A small amount of local negative feedback is used only for the output stage.
The Grommes PHI-26 can provide 3 functions: Preamp (Line Stage), Headphone Amplifier, or Integrated Amplifier (2 or 6 watts 8 ohms).

All transformers were specially built to our specifications. The output transformer is a wideband high performance type. The power transformer is a specially shielded type to minimize electrical noise.
