Audio Research SP20

This is a silver Audio Research SP20 Pre Amplifier purchased new May 2015. The SP20 is a fully hybrid preamplifier that includes a phono preamp and headphone jack. The circuitry is class-A, zero feedback and fully balanced throughout with the exception of the phono input, which is unbalanced. Besides the phone input, there are four other unbalanced two balanced inputs and separate monitor and Record Out jacks. A touchscreen for controlling features including customizing the display for each line stage input, tube hours and other controls. This display includes a nice feature that tracks the number of hours played on the tubes and as you can see from the photo, these tubes have 2,342 hours on them. Audio Research states they should not need to be changed for a minimum of 4,000 hours.

This unit is in excellent condition and rated 9/10. It was serviced July 2018 by Audio Research due to what I thought was a short in the headphone jack. Audio Research thoroughly tested the unit and cleaned the tube sockets. They did determine that the plug on my headphones touched the board slightly when inserted and that was causing what I heard. This was corrected and the unit has worked perfectly since.
