The Ayre AX-5 Twenty is a big, open-sounding, emotionally rewarding, and incredibly musical integrated amplifier. The same amazing technology (Variable Gain) analog volume control found in the KX-R Twenty Preamp can be found here. The double-diamond output stage on the amplifier makes this an integrated amplifier for someone who wants reference level sound in a one-box package.  The only reason I am selling is that I am moving to the West Coast and would like to downsize my system to adjust to the new set of room requirements.

This unit was upgraded to Twenty status.
There is a scratch near the rear of the righthand side plate. (See Last Photo)

This AX-5 Twenty is in the slightly more expensive black finish.

Questions for the seller
Do you have the paperwork showing the upgrade to the Twenty?
Hi Randy, I was the North American sales Manager for Ayre Acoustics. I got and paid for the upgrade. Also, you can always [filtered] in to Ayre and give them the serial number. They can verify. Thanks, -Alex
Do you ship to Toronto?
If you would like to pay for shipping and any other duties or fees I have no problem with that. Thanks, -Alex
Hello. Since you mentioned you were a sales manager, I am replacing a v6-xe and was curious your thoughts on power compared to it? I am running vandersteen Treo ct’s And I love ayre products but find that I have to get the volume up pretty high for everything to snap into place. I love the idea of an all-in-one solution. I should also mention, I do listen loud when have have the time so volume is important when can. Thanks. Todd
Hi Todd, yes, the V6 is a great amplifier. However, the AX-5 Twenty was developed ten years after the V6, and in that time, Ayre learned a lot about how to progress its amp development. The AX-5 Twenty uses the Diamond Output stage, making for an efficient, open, and powerful sound. I, like you, am currently using the Treo CTs. They are a wonderful accompaniment to my AX-5/QX-5 system. And to give you a sense of scale, my listening room is a converted two car garage, at about 400 sq. ft. With a peaked roof. Lots of volume, but the AX-5 has absolutely no problem delivering a big sound. I also don’t have any problem listening at lower levels. Please feel free to ask any other questions.
Hello. Since you mentioned you were the sales manager, how does it compare to the v6-xe? I love the openness and detail of Ayre but it can be a little on the lean side. I also have to get the volume to a decent level for things to snap in place so nighttime listening is tough. I love it when I have the space to listen loud but feel it is missing something otherwise. I am powering vandersteen Treo ct’s Which need some juice and was wondering if this may check any of the boxes. I love the idea of an all-in-one solution.
Hi Again, Todd, I’ll just address the question of leanness. With the AX-5 Twenty, AudioQuest cabling, and Vandersteen Treo CTs, I have never experienced lean sound. I would describe the sound I get as dynamic, open, large in scale and incredibly involving.
