For sale is my TL7.5 Series III Reference Preamplifier just back from VTL to be checked out prior to selling -- I only unpacked it to take pictures.
Arguably one of the best preamplifiers at any price, the TL7.5 has been upgraded 2+ times since it was first introduced. I am the second owner (bought it June 2015); it was a Series II and the original owner upgraded it to Series III.
While the upgrade from Series II to Series III was announced, VTL quietly upgraded the Series III in the past couple of years and this unit has the latest upgrades:
- The left and right gain stage boards where the tubes are use new boards with better components that reduce noise, creating a blacker background.
- The Control Power Supply chassis has been upgraded with the new adjustment system for the FET devices in the power supply as well as new caps for the shift register. This update improves the regulation of the power supply, reducing the noise floor further and improving the sound.
- And, while the original Series III had a great stepped volume control, VTL has improved it. Current models have newly designed, four volume attenuator boards with new production boards that include new, more precisely matched relays that VTL sources from the UK. The relays are very quiet and there is a noticeable improvement in sound quality and resolution.
Also included in the sale is a pair of never used Telefunken G73R/ECC802S Extraordinarily Special Quality ECC82/12AU7 tubes that I bought from Tube Depot (retail $800) and a Tube Imp Mini Tube Tester (retails for $295).
NOTE: when I was taking pictures, I slightly scratched the top right-hand corner of the control chassis faceplate (I've called out before & after in the pictures).
