Carver C-9

................................................     Sometimes you just need a product for a second system that you don't want to spend a lot of money on, yet still get the performance of a pretty boy component. Well, this unit would be called a sleeper because of it's looks. All the internals are the same as my other units. In fact, I ran across this unit at eBay and bought it knowing that it was one of the first units that I ever built. I added and changed quite a bit of the rebuild since 5 years ago, and it was kinda fun to see before and after at the 5 year mark.  The Carver C-9 units are still holding their own when it comes to performance. In other words, they do what they claim, i.e. make a believable soundstage for audio beyond the original recording. They use cross cancellation, a bit of delay, and a bit of EQ. Bottom line, it works in this case.   Since I believe in these units so much, I decided to up their circuit tolerance by replacing capacitors for example with tighter tolerance types made by Panasonic, Wima, and others. Many resistors are also changed out, and most importantly, I have found that replacing the original transformer with a beefier unit helped things along quite well.  This isn't my first rodeo with C-9 units, and where I have ended up here is with a product that I don't have to apologize for.  Try it, you buy it. Don't like it, return it. It's that simple. AND FREE SHIPPING? C'MON
