Thorens TD 121. Similar to the 124 but uses less mechanism for a quieter noise floor. This model was primarily used for broadcasting. The trade off is it operates in one speed. The speed can be changed by removing the platter and resetting the height of one of the pulleys. 16, 33.3, 45 and 78 available. Currently set at 33.3.
The plus is you can have the excellent sound of an idler Thorens for less than half the price.
This deck is in top condition:
--- Excellent condition main bearing pulled form a TD 124. --- Motor rebuild by Schopper (has about 50 hours on it). --- SME 3009 MkII arm rebuilt by SME Tonearms. Internal and external wiring upgrade to Cardas (also about 50 hours on it). --- Shure M97e cartridge (also about 50 hours on it); one of the cartridges recommended by Schopper and good choice to get started with the Thorens. --- Schopper armboard. --- Solid Rosewood plinth.
To buy a TD 121 in good condition and put the above into it would cost about $3,500 plus finding a 124 main bearing (about $300 if you can find one).
I hate to see this one go but I have too many turntables.
