Bar-none, the finest and best-designed integrated amplifier I have ever heard with my Devore O/93s — all the holography of tubes (EL84/equivalent being my favorite pentode for their beautiful vibrancy, color, and articulation) and all the detail of solid state (zero hysteresis loss). I ran this with very different DACs from Bricasti and Lampizator and it sounded incredible with all. Nothing sounds quite like a Berning design!

These have a massive soundstage, clear sky transparency, are ear-to-tweeter-dead silent, cool-running for tubes, push out profound bass slam, plus that spine-tingling tube magic, body, richness, and very serious tone! Partner that with remarkable savings via tube life and this is about as close to perfection as I can imagine! The sound is sensational and the circuit helps the tubes last for 10,000+ hours on average. It is more satisfying to hear and use in my system than the Allnic T1500B, Pass Labs Int-60, Ayre AX-5 Twenty, and the Octave V70SE; that says something! The review below prefers it to the Pass XA25 and the Nagra 300B integrated, and I'm not surprised.

It has slightly less “tubeyness” than the Leben without losing the magic. It has much more “tubeyness” than the ARC without losing the accuracy. It has leading edge crispness and dynamics that one would typically associate with the best solid state. The top end of the Z10 remains smooth and composed while the air and tone of the top end is there in spades. Where the Z10 has blown me away is with the bass. With the addition of a preamplifier borrowed from Berning’s $30K product, the existing ZOTL circuitry cross-couples to a gain stage, and matches perfectly with the power amplifier.

The amplifier is wrapped in our new control system featuring: 5 inputs (including one true balanced input,) tape in and out, LED dimmable display with configurable time out, LED input indicators, home theater mode, remote controlled stepped attenuation using premium Vishay Dale resistors, and a linear power supply configured with a Belleson regulator for extremely low noise. Additionally, the Integrated Z10 comes equipped with two headphone output jacks: a high output for less sensitive headphones and a low output for very sensitive headphones.

Delivering much higher power than solid state amps with the same power rating, ZOTL tube amplifiers can drive your 90db and above sensitivity speakers to thundering levels with headroom to spare.
