B&W (Bowers & Wilkins) P5

B&W Model P5 Floor Standing Speakers.  Very rare 1995 vintage Preference Series.  Same series of drivers as the ultra expensive and renowned 802 series.  Made from 1995-1998. 6 &1/2 inch Kevlar mid-range & Cobex woofer.  Metal dome tweeter.  Split connections allow for Bi-Amping. Cherrywood finish on all four sides. If you research these speakers, you will find that the P series tweeters suffered from the ferro-fluid drying out after about 10 years or less. Tweeter output then dropped off.  I have replaced the tweeter of the right speaker. 
 
These speakers have the same series of drivers as the ones used in the famous Matrix 800 series of the same era and were considered a best buy at $1600, compared to the very expensive 802's. They lacked the matrix system of complex inner chambers, and the separate top mounted tweeters, but shared many sound qualities. Often referred to as "the working-mans Matrix 802's " by B&W dealers due to their shared drivers but much lower cost. They have a very smooth, yet detailed sound signature, with deep bass to the 35Hz range.  Outstanding mid-range!   I will say that bi-amping these guys really brings them into another realm.  These are a hard to find series as B&W did not make them beyond a few year period.  Too bad, they are a great speaker!
