Carver c9

  When I rebuild the Carver C-9 units for resale, I don't like to make cookie cutter units. That is the reason for the different pricing of the units. This unit would be considered one of my more basic upgrades that gives 90% of the performance of a fully loaded unit.   In this case, the power transformer has been replaced to a beefier model, all electrolytic capacitors have been replaced (I will NOT rebuild any unit without this upgrade since these capacitors a 20-30 year life expectancy). The RCA jacks have been replaced with Manley brand RCA jacks, meaning they are much higher quality than all those cheap gold plated jacks that look good on the outside but are just crap metal internally. The AC power inlet on the rear replaces the old hard wired AC cord, and even the little hard rubber feet are replaced with soft silicone feet that stop vibration in its tracks, and won't let the unit slip around so easily when front panel buttons are being pushed. No doubt I should mention that the top cover has been repainted perfectly with a very high quality coating that will not be scratched off like normal spray paint. The photo shows specks that aren't really there, so take that into consideration. That occurs sometimes when using a flash.//////////////////////////////////////

  The C-9 unit is capable of producing a 3D soundstage from just two speakers. Yes, I am aware that everybody out there has a certain tweak of some kind that is promised to do miracles for hundreds of dollars invested by the customer. So, let me explain how this unit will actually be a real step in imaging that will be judged by your ears, and not some placebo effect of marketing. The unit uses cross cancellation signals in each channel that allow your ears to believe that there is an acoustical image right in front of you. There is some delay but not much, and a little shaping of the frequency spectrum (mostly in the midrange IIRC). The final effect is only as effective as the recording allows. What I mean by this is that most recordings use miking/mixing in a way that creates a stereo image. They can be really very good. We all have our favorites. The C-9 has the best effect on those recordings. On the other hand, should the recording be of a solo performance, much less can be used by the unit for its effect, and that will be noticed as well. As a beautiful example for me, I once heard Pink Floyd's DSOM in way that I never heard it before. The man running in the airport in the beginning of the album, was running in circles around me! Now, I will tell you truthfully, this was one of the best case scenarios and I might had room treatment just perfect for this effect, but not without the C-9 unit.  In the end, I am making this really simple for you. You buy the unit, you love the unit and keep it forever listening to your recordings in a new way, OR send it back for a full refund, minus shipping, of course.
