Update: I have a potential offer for the DAC. I have updated the listing to reflect the V281 Amp alone, at $1800, including shipping. If you want to buy the set, they are both still available.
I'm lowering the price for both items from $2600, to $2300. At this point, it's basically like buying the amp new and getting the DAC for free. I will split them up if you really want one or the other.
I am hoping to sell these units as a pair, since they go together rather well. I bought them here, from another member, last year. I am the second owner and they are approximately 3 years old now. They have been kept in smoke free environments without pets. They work perfectly and show very little sign of wear.
The V281 is a very powerful balanced amp. It has a slightly warm sound, with satisfying weight and a very natural, lifelike signature. I would call it somewhat tube like, without any of the downsides. Resolution is very good. Not quit THX-AAA level, but it is less sterile and more engaging at the same time. It also holds its composure very well during complex passages. My V281 includes the remote control upgrade. I believe the remote can work the DAC too, but I've never used it. It's still in the original box.
The V850 is a very capable DAC. It is very clean, flat and fast. It has excellent resolution and sounds very natural. I believe it offers good synergy with the V281, as would be expected. It has a digital volume control dial, to reduce output if needed. It offers full balanced XLR and regular RCA outs. Other than volume level, they sound identical to me. It can drive two amps at once, if needed. It has several oversampling modes as well as NOS.
