You've found a Very Good condition Nakamichi CR-7A discrete 3 head cassette deck, with remote in matching condition.

I like having various media formats in my system, but I find that I simply was not using cassettes as I expected. This CR-7A is too great to sit here unused - it needs a new home.
This unit has had very little use by the first owner (truly appeared unused regarding mechanics and finishes), and by me. It was previously in an enclosed audio system that was rarely used and here in a smoke free home with high end system (B&W, Classé, SME, Revox, bel canto, etc) and sparingly used for recording vinyl. There are three minor marks on the unit: one on top near the back edge, one on the left side, and one on the right side. All are thin, surface only marks and are shown in the photos. No apparent wear on tape mechanics and heads are excellent condition.

I'm not going to put all the info and accolades for the CR-7A here. If you have found this listing you probably know what this machine is. For anyone who has stumbled into this searching for top performance decks, you can google to find all the detailed info at The Audio Archive, Mono and Stereo, and HiFi Engine. The most notable features include:

  • Auto Calibration of playback, azimuth, bias and recording level with independent memory banks for the three major tape types.
  • Playback Head Azimuth Fine Tuning Control (manual, on device and via remote)
  • Real Time Tape Counter
  • Auto Fade at the end of each tape side
  • Subsonic Filter (for recording warped discs)
  • Wireless Remote Control (controls REC/PLAY and Azimuth)
  • Special 2-second peak-hold on its 50-dB level indicators
  • Exceedingly low wow and flutter, only bested by the Nakamichi Dragon: 0.027%

Personally I have found the performance in features and audio to be excellent. I have recorded the same vinyl to both Revox reel-reel (C 270) and the CR-7A for A-B comparison in my system and very hard to distinguish fidelity difference with high performance cassettes. On the features, the auto-calibration enables optimal audio quality consistently across tape types, and other features are pretty much as good as it got in tape decks with these coming at the end of the cassette era.

This machine is simply a pleasure to use and hear. Time to pass it on to someone who can enjoy it more than I am these days.

I will include reprints of the owners manual and service manual and the deck will be double layered for shipping. No returns on this unit as I know there are no issues with performance.

Please closely review the images, as they are part of the description.
Cheers.
