CONDITION: I am rating these units cosmetically an 8/10 because of a fine scratch on the top edge of the preamp. The face plates are almost perfect and there are a few small scratches on the top covers (see photos). I just had Stereo Hospital bench test and go through both the XL-280 and SE-100 to be sure everything is working properly. 

NOTES: 
(1) I stacked the Power Amp and Preamp for the cover photo only. Always allow proper ventilation - I never stack anything on top of the Power Amplifier.

XL-280 EXCELINEAR AMPLIFIER: Its circuit is a substantial engineering advance over it's predecessors the DH-200 and DH-220. It is detailed and punchy with very low distortion using David Hafler's second generation "EXCELINEAR" design with impedance matching circuitry. It conservitavely puts out 145 watts per channel continuous into 8 ohms with a signal to noise ratio greater than 100 db. 200 watts per channel continuous output into 4 ohms. The amp can also be bridged to run mono at 400 watts continuous into 8 ohms. The XL-280 amplifier has completely isolated power supplies, making the amp essentially a dual-mono design, apart from a common line transformer. Each supply consists of two separate sub-supplies for the output and voltage amplifier stages. In common with amplifiers from Krell, Threshold, and Naim, the XL-280 has no inductors in series with the outputs. These inductors are included in nearly all designs to define the HF rolloff with capacitive loads, and thereby avoid high-frequency (ultrasonic) oscillation. Without them, the amplifier must be very much more intrinsically stable; with them, sound quality undoubtedly suffers. See the full XL-280 Stereophile review (link below).

SE-100 PREAMPLIFIER: Includes the optional Moving Magnet / Moving Coil phono board which is push button switchable. The Preamplifier has defeatable tone controls and 5 inputs including: (1) Phono, (2) CD, (3) Tuner, (4) Video, (5) Tape (with Monitor). There are 2 Switchable Outputs (you can run a powered subwoofer) plus a front panel Headphone Jack. The SE-100 features an all J-FET line stage giving it smooth tube-like sound while maintaining ultra-low distortion and is a perfect match with the XL-280 Amplifier.
