Fantastic Linn speakers from the early 2000's.

Featuring rear firing woofers to take advantage of your rooms "corner loading" for improved bass performance.

You're able to single-wire them with the included jumpers, and you can also tri-wire them (!) if you're lucky enough to have multiple Linn amplifiers.

The cabinets and all drivers are in good shape. The speaker bases do have some cosmetic wear, but are structurally intact.

The Linn AV 5140 loudspeaker is specifically designed to dramatically enhance the performance and enjoyment of audio/visual playback. The AV 5140 is a high quality floorstanding speaker, which can be used in a wide variety of AV system positions: Built-in magnetic screening allows the AV 5140 to be positioned as close as 50mm to a television set. An elegant, slender speaker this speaker will blend naturally into many different home environments.

The AV 5140 is the result of critical acoustic and performance considerations. The design of the speaker optimises cabinet geometry and construction, drive unit configuration, crossover frequency relationships and aerodynamic design of port exits to maximise the performance of A/V playback.

The 18mm high density fibre board cabinet of the AV 5140 has been radically designed resulting in a minimum of parallel surfaces on the inside of the cabinet to reduce the internal resonance associated with all loudspeakers. The slim front baffle provides good dispersion and high rigidity whilst the wider back of the cabinet allows an eight inch bass unit to be fitted to provide superior bass extension.

Extended bass units provide the low range necessary for A/V. High power handling and wide dynamic range enable it to handle music and AV sound effects without distortion. The front and rear ports ensure optimum air flow while at the same time providing a stylish, timeless and elegant look.

The AV 5140 is supplied with spikes and base to improve sound quality and provide maximum stability. A full length grille is available as an option.

Treble Driver
The treble unit has a 19mm ceramic dome tweeter mounted on a diecast face plate, with a ferrofluid-cooled voice coil on a Kapton former which transmits heat to the magnet. The aluminium face plate allows higher power handling. The rear of the tweeter is sealed in its own enclosure to prevent the bass pressure influencing the treble performance.

Midrange Driver
The midrange driver uses a rigid polypropylene cone and an aluminium voice coil former. Magnet assembly increases efficiency allowing maximum amplifier control. There is a long throw voice coil for lower distortion.

Bass Driver
Magnesium alloy diecast chassis providing maximum rigidity. Large high-efficiency magnet assembly providing high sensitivity and bass damping. Aluminium voice coil former for excellent heat dispersion. Four-layer voice coil for improved magnetic coupling. Long throw cone suspension for high sound pressure levels.

Crossover
The crossovers use high specification audio grade capacitors with polypropylene caps for treble, polyester caps for mid-range. High current iron-dust inductors are used to prevent saturation and distortion. Other features include: heavy copper tracks for low resistance and signal integrity; high strength glass fibre circuit boards. Input sockets are soldered directly to board to reduce contact resistances. Second order electrical response for treble, mid-range and bass. All drive units individually soldered to crossover cables.

If we don’t have the original manufacture’s packaging, we use heavy duty double-ply corrugated boxes with custom made to your item Instapak expanding foam custom inserts. In many cases this has proven to be better than the original packaging! We also use high quality fiber reinforced tape to seal our packages. Lightweight items will be bubble wrapped and shipped in a high-quality box.

PURCHASING GUIDELINES:

We do not accept or review any offers that do not go through the official Audiogon system. We have too many items for sale and it’s nearly impossible to keep track of offers outside of the official system. Please don’t message, email, or text any offers. 

PAYMENTS:

We prefer working through PayPal which allows you to use a credit card, bank transfer, and their special financing to spread out payments over six months. We do not charge extra for any PayPal fees if you purchase the item at the asking price. You can also send us a personal check (which will need to clear before shipping), certified check, money order, or bank wire transfer. International clients without access to PayPal should use a bank wire transfer. 

If you’re picking up an item, we do not accept PayPal. You must pay in person with a certified check, bank check, or wire transfer. If you make a PayPal payment and are picking up the item, your PayPal payment will be returned. 

TRADE IN POLICY:

We accept trade-ins of equal or lesser value under certain conditions. Simply click here to submit your gear for full consideration. We will only consider high-end equipment from mainstream manufacturers such as McIntosh, Mark Levinson, Audio Research, Krell, etc. and will typically pass on displays, projectors, receivers, dated surround processors, and mid-fi equipment of any type. We will offer a fair value for your equipment, but keep in mind we’re running a business and will need to be able to resell the equipment at a profit after investing a great deal of time and resources in testing, certifying, repairing, cleaning, and packaging the incoming equipment. If you’re looking for top dollar, we suggest selling direct on your own.

SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT:                                                                                                     

We are currently operating from our shop inside our dedicated building in Glen Rock, NJ. You’re welcome to make an appointment if there’s a piece of equipment you’d like to see in operation before or after purchase. We have several well-equipped and dedicated listening areas, plus a dedicated listening studio with tons of equipment of all makes and models. We’re not a store, so please don’t make an appointment if you’re just curious as to how a speaker or piece of equipment sounds. In essence - no tire kickers please.

You can call or text 201-879-0000 with any questions or to schedule an appointment. We can also arrange to install, calibrate, and tune your newly purchased gear in your listening room if you’re local to our area. This is super useful when purchasing large speakers or heavy amplifiers. It’s also great for ensuring your new turntable is setup correctly in its final resting place.
