Vintage Nakamichi 3-head auto-reversing cassette deck in very good condition. Never racked; heads and rollers cleaned regularly. In excellent working order. Front looks like new; there are a couple of light scratches on top of case (see photos). I would call it "excellent" but one of the scratches is longer than half an inch and I want to be cautious in grading.
Second only to the Nakamichi Dragon, its more expensive twin, this was the coolest cassette deck on the block in the heyday of cassette tapes. Watch your friends' jaws drop as the cassette pops out of the well, turns itself around, and starts on side B -- so the heads are in perfect alignment in both directions. If I play the same recording on cassette, LP and CD it's extremely difficult to hear any difference in frequency range or soundstage. (OK, the LP usually wins by a hair.) But if you are a cassette fan (as I used to be) you know all this. I'll append some specs below. I do not have the manual but you can get the PDF on line (or buy a print copy on Ebay for $10). I will include Teac head cleaner and roller cleaner fluids. Will ship insured in the original double carton in which it was shipped from Japan to the dealer in Philadelphia; I've saved all the original protective pads.
Below I've cut and pasted from a retailer's ad for an RX-505 of the same year, I looked it up for the specs and can't resist including some of the hype.
-------------- Well, here it is, the Holy Grail of cassette decks. If you have made it this far, you know what you are looking at. To Nakamichi, 3-Head always means three discrete heads, physically independent record, playback and erase heads that are perfectly optimized and critically aligned in magnetic azimuth to ensure flat response to beyond 20 KHz and optimum MOL.
