I bought this trusty Ayre D-1x in 2001 from an Audiogon dealer. This is SN 129 in their production. I had the unit upgraded and tuned up in 2008. The audio from this unit, whether playing CD or DVD, is amazing. It even has the XLR based digital output capability. The main disclosure to be made is that the DVD/CD drawer does not want to stay open. It will open all the way, and immediately retract. The technician in 2008 indicated this was a limitation of the bare drive model used in the D-1x units. Because of this major limitation and the lack of HDMI and Blu-Ray capability, I'm looking for someone interested in a great value willing to put up with the drawer loading issue. I believe Ayre is willing to service the unit should you wish to resolve the drawer loading issue.
