Sony SCD-XA777ES - CD / SACD Transport and Player

The Sony SCD-XA777ES  was released at the height of SACD excitement.  It was Sony's flagship SACD player at the time with a more dependable front loading design.  No corners were cut to create this 35Lb piece of engineering.  The chassis is a twin beam design to maintain absolute vibrationless playback.  Even the disc tray is near silent at it reaches out to accept your favorite disc.  

The XA777ES does everything a new player will do today, some things even better.  It features full multi-channel SACD playback, no noisey video circuitry, six (6) individual B-B PCM 1738 DACs provide direct DSD/PCM  input and discrete 6 channel output, 2-channel direct mode, all CD PCM date is upconverted to DSD before D/A conversion, and it has 2 digital filters.  Most modern players under $5000 simply do not put that kind of effort into recreating music.

Listening to CD's on the XA777ES is revealing, however switching over to SACD is absolute bliss.  So much so that going back to CD's seems like going back to cassette tape.  So much is just vastly superior.  Music takes on a realism with details, resolution and naturalness taking you to a place you want to come back to again and again.  Its exciting that SACD's are still being produced and have increased in sales in 2020.
