Legacy Audio, known for making high end loudspeakers, did offer a few amplifiers over the years. They are not shy about admitting they did not design or build the amplifiers. I'm sure they are actually quite proud. This amplifier is actually built by Coda. Coda was founded by a couple of the designers who worked at Threshold, later to become PASS Labs. I understand that the amplifier circuitry in the LS96, allowing this amp to run at full class A and then switch over to A/B, was designed by Nelson Pass himself. Makes sense since many PASS amplifiers use this design yet today.
The amplifier runs are very high current and is capable of driving large loads with ease. Its always interesting to turn off the power switch and hear the amp continue to drive your speakers for over half a minute! This is due in part to the rows of large capacitors for storing 100,000 microfarads of reserve power for demanding peaks.
We've found the amp to be dead quite, yet surprisingly detailed and articulate. I'd guess if it had a PASS logo on the front it would easily be in the $6000+ price point. These are rarely found for sale and there is little info about them available, but they have in interesting pedigree and will be an amp you'll want to hang onto for years to come. The LA96 is a hidden gem.
The amplifier is very clean and was in a smoke and pet free home. No scratches on the face or chassis.
Note: This amplifier appears to be identical to the model LS200.
