These monoblocks have just been reconditioned at George Meyer AV, where they are sitting awaiting sale. GM indexed these onto AudioShark, and this listing is meant to clarify what is included and to provide more images.
I purchased these, I believe about the year 2000, and had VAC upgrade them to mk3. Originally they came fitted with Golden Dragon 300Bs for the output tubes and also Golden Dragon 6SN7s for the input stage. When these tubes became long in the tooth, I obtained a set of VAC branded 300Bs as well as new 6SN7s. Soon thereafter, I had Andy at Vintage Tube Services retube the 6SN7s with NOS Sylvania GTs. Soon after that, I replaced the 300Bs with KRs, which definitely added more detail and presence. After a year or 2, a couple of the KRs had failed at a time that you could not obtain replacements, and after consulting with Kevin at VAC, he suggested that some people like to mix and match, one KR and one Golden Dragon at each tube pairing. I tried this, but liked the KRs alone better, so now only have all KRs in place except for one VAC labeled Golden Dragon in each channel. To me that sounds the same as all KRs. The other upgrade was to place the heavy brass tube dampers on the 6SN7s. The old Sylvania 6SN7s sound glorious, but are somewhat microphonic, so these dampers made an audible improvement in detail. These dampers are no longer made, and far exceed the performance of others I have tried.
BTW, it looks like KRs can be obtained again, with some liking the balloon shaped ones best.
You can contact me with questions, or George Meyer AV to purchase and to arrange shipping. These units are heavy, so shipping all on a pallet is recommended.
These units are designed to sound great for a very long time, so consider this as a lifetime investment.
