I bought the Ayre QB-9 privately from someone online in March 2011. It was recently (December, 2021) tested and refurbished to be up to specs and in good working order at Ayre Acoustics factory in Boulder, Colorado because one channel wasn't working. It's my understanding that they replaced the entire mother board. The QB-9 is an asynchronous USB DAC that can accept data from your music library stored say on a computer via the QB-9's USB input. It accepts up to 24 bits, 192 kHz high resolution audio data stream via the USB input. Since the USB input is asynchronous, the unit itself re-clocks the music data instead of using your computer's clock and outputs a 2-channel stereo analog audio signal through the two balanced outputs or the two single-ended RCA type outputs (see photo). You only have to hook it up to your computer   via USB and then hook up the analog outputs to your preamplifier's or integrated amplifier's stereo inputs to hear the music you have stored on your computer. It will be packed and shipped in the box that Ayre factory used to ship it to me in December, 2021 when it was refurbished (see photos). I do not see any scuffs or scratches on it but since it is preowned I have to declare that it MAY have a scuff or a scratch. The factory did not replace the case but I kept excellent care of it with very very light use as you can see in the photos.  Also, I upgraded the unit at the Ayre factory in 2011 to also be able to decode high resolution audio (24 bit/192 kHz) capability. The original MSRP for the unit was $2,500. The upgrade cost me an additional $250 so total original MSRP = $2,750 including a 24/192 factory upgrade. In addition, I also paid $203.13 for the unit's testing and refurbishing at the Ayre factory in December 2021.

For a review in Stereophile Magazine of the original QB-9 (before the upgrade to 24/192) go here:

and for an addendum regarding the 24/192 upgrade, go here:

The manual will also be included with your purchase of the QB-9. Power cord, interconnect cables and USB cable are NOT included. (The serial number has been redacted out of the photographs with the color "blue" for internet security.) Thank you for shopping on audiogon.

P.S.: If you would like to see the serial number(s) on the photo(s) and/or any of the paperwork for the 24/192 upgrade in 2011 and/or the December 2021 testing/refurbishing at Ayre Acoustics factory, let me know and I can do that with you through Audiogon.
