The design goal of the whole HDI speaker line is to combine the dynamics of traditional JBL models with the audiophile sound and imaging of some of Harman's audiophile dome and cone speakers, notably, Revel. The result is a modern speaker system with exceptional imaging and sound staging across a wide range of listening positions and effortless dynamics. I believe these to be the most under rated JBL range of models ever produced. The JBL HDI-3600 floor standing model combines the latest JBL D2 compression driver technology with a proprietary high-definition imaging horn providing smooth dispersion into the room, a significant advantage over traditional designs. The woofers are a newly developed cast frame 6.5" diver developed just for the HDI line. The 2.5 way crossover allows all three drivers to reproduce superb deep bass and dynamics. Only the top mid-bass driver is crossed over to the horn thereby exhibiting smooth directivity, especially when combined with the rounded corners of the stiff modern cabinet design.
