Here we have the most unique pair of speaker cables we've encountered. The legendary Klee Acoustics Dragon Reference Speaker Cables were handbuilt by Larry Forbes. Most of the Dragons were built for customers in Asia but we have one of the few pairs delivered in America. These served as our reference for about 3 years, then went into storage when we moved to shorter cables. They never left our listening space and are in excellent condition. For the right client in need of a very long cable length in an extreme high-end system, these are a once-in-a-lifetime pair of cables.

The construction of the Dragon Speaker Cables consists of 28 layers of 4" silver ribbon machined together, with 2 cables per speaker. Spade connectors on one end and Banana connectors on the other. When you get up to lengths of 6.0M (20ft) it becomes extremely difficult to maintain bass frequency response as with an 8ft cable. The Dragon very were pricey but the design is absolutely unique and the performance for a cable of this length, without the use of any electronic filtering networks, is as good as any cable we've heard.

These cables were built by the Master, Larry Forbes, who had to discontinue his cable business after losing his vision. Here are some excerpts from his emails about this pair of cables. The original retail price of $25,000 was for a 4.0M pair, so the price for these would have been considerably more expensive.

"A 6.0M pair is a three-week job to complete. This cable design is my latest second-generation 2.1 cable. It is very heavy because I went for a zero conductor vibration design, and a 6-meter cable pair will weigh about 15--20 lbs. Even at its 20-foot length it has the DC resistance of a six-inch length of number 6 wire. This is like no other cable in the world."

"I have sold some 2-meter versions in Hong Kong and Korea, and one on the east coast. Anything over 2 meters is custom and involves work from my machinist. And because I use many layers of different metals each layer has to be nearly 20 feet in a 6 meter cable, and so it's like a total of 28 layers of metal times 20 feet= 560 feet of special types of Silver which costs a fortune, so you can see why the price escalates outrageously. What kind of speaker cable have you already been using that is 6 meters long? How much bass response is left after a 6 meter run? I can fix you up with a cable that will be fine from say 50 Hz all the way out to 50 kHz that would be far more reasonable in price. (In such a cable I would be dispensing with the anti-vibration "heavy metal" ribbons and some layers of the high conductivity stuff, but still it would have a fairly flat response from 50 Hz to 50 kHz. My standard cable delivers meaningful response down to 30 Hz, but to do that takes a lot of metal. I call this cable the "superconductor" and it reaches down to 20 Hz. I initially built it for a client in Hong Kong who kept demanding more bass response. I built a miniature version of the "superconductor" cable for an interconnect, which my Hong Kong guy loves. I sold many pairs of superconductor speaker cables in Asia, and I have one here now. The MSRP for a 2-meter "superconductor" cable is $16,000."
