Currently on view and for sale at Citizen Vinyl in downtown Asheville, we have a pair of rare Marantz M16 speakers manufactured in 1980. Considered by audiophiles the finest speakers Marantz ever produced, they were designed by audio legend Ed May (of JBL fame) shortly before his death. Very few of these speakers were ever manufactured and it is impossible to find any for sale or that have even been sold online in the last 20 years.
---Mirrored, focused-field, floor-standing speakers with genuine walnut veneer on 3 sides and bronze trim.
---45"H x 19"W x 13"D. Each speaker weighs 75 lbs.
---Poly grill cloth on front with side door that swings open to access separate controls for woofer, mid and tweeters without removing grill. Very cool!
---Smoked glass inlay on the top of each speaker!
---12" woofer, 5" mid-range, 1&1/2" LPF tweeter, 1" LPF dome super-tweeter.
---20-28,000 Hz [email protected] 700, 2400, and 5500 Hz.
---5-250 watts capability at 8 ohms impedance.
---$699 in 1980 (that was a lot for home speakers).
These speakers are in excellent condition with only some very minor cosmetic flaws. Speaker wire terminals are on bottom of speakers so as not to compromise aesthetics. The woofers did have their surrounds replaced years ago. They play perfectly.
