This VK-655SE is unique. It has separate control gains for each channel. After taking delivery I found out that Victor Khomenco, co-founder and designer of the BAT gears built these state of the art gains himself. They look cheap from the outside but you can see their complexity once the the top is removed.
I ordered the amp with this modification to be able to fine tune the double center channel configuration promoted years ago by Magnepan legendary GM Wendell Diller: Center CCR with bass panel CCR plus a pair of MMC-2 on the sides. One channel handled the CCR stack and the other the MMC-2. The different output of the speakers could be equalized thanks to the amp independent gains. I will put these speakers up for sale in the following days.
For you now this added feature translates in the unique advantage is to be able to fine tune for the optimal gain with your preamp.
This amp, like for the mono amps just listed, has been "honored" with one of the old stock of rear panel of the discontinued VK 600. You will find this bizarre story mentioned in one of the earlier reviews of the 655 series.
