"This exciting design uses the same basic configuration as the acclaimed Iota Alpha speaker, in an enlarged form. The top section is sealed off from the lower, and acts as a two-way infinite baffle loudspeaker. It houses Neat’s own P1-R3 170mm bass/midrange drive unit alongside an Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter in a horizontal array, as per the widely acclaimed Iota and Iota Alpha models."

"The lower, ported, section of the Xplorer houses not one, but two of Neat’s P1-R2 bass drive units. These are similar to the R3 unit, but specially tailored for extended low-frequency response. One unit is located on the bottom panel, facing the floor, whilst the second is located internally, directly above the first, in a sealed iso-baric arrangement, handling only low frequencies and acting as an integral subwoofer system. Iso-baric loading allows deep, well controlled LF performance from a compact enclosure. This system takes great skill to execute correctly, and its very successful implementation in several of Neat’s other designs mean that we approach this new design with confidence."

Neat Acoustics has been hand crafting outstanding loudspeakers since 1989 in the Northeast of England. (Trivia: For those who may not know, NEAT actually stands for "Northeast Audio Traders") Their initial widely acclaimed success came with the original Neat Petite, Neat’s fantastic interpretation of the well known BBC LS3/5A studio monitor. The Iota series represents Neat’s unique approach to cabinet design. Few companies have been so dedicated to high quality unique approaches to speaker design over the past decade. This design allows for a full range frequency response and outstanding bass in a smaller package. Ultimately this approach combined with proprietary cabinet and porting designs results in a full frequency range as well as dynamic capabilities at all listening levels.

Perhaps Neat Acoustics’ best known feature is their commitment to pace, rhythm, attack and timing (PRAT), along with an uncanny ability to recreate correct musical timbre. Further, while they are rated with a moderate sensitivity rating, Neat speakers yield a benign (flat) impedance making them easy to drive with modest powered tube or solid state gear. The sound of Xplorer is extremely open with a large image, deep base, and palpable 3D sound stage.

The Xplorer is a medium size floor standing loudspeaker with extremely unique proportions measuring 29.2 in. x 11.8 in. x 8.7 in. and weighing approximately 40 pounds (each). They are capable of significant output, full range and a fantastic musical presentation. More uniquely, they are sized to fit well under window sills, chair rail molding or other obstructions that negate the use of taller speakers, while still providing full range output.
