My pair of consecutively serial numbered, completely re-capped Jeff Rowland Design Group (Rowland Research) Model 3 monoblock amplifiers.  I have replaced ALL small electrolytic capacitors with high quality Panasonic FC and FM caps. These caps not only sound great, they have a higher temperature (105c) and longer life rating than the original caps. The large power-supply filter caps were also were upgraded with United Chemicon units with higher capacitance, voltage rating, as well as longer life and higher temperature ratings (105C) than the originals. For these reasons, all of the replacement caps should remain stable in these amps for many years to come. The new caps have been fully broken-in with lots of listening through my recently sold Apogee Duetta Signatures. I can easily say that these Model 3 monoblocks have never sounded better.

Please Note: Jeff Rowland Model 3 amps power amps were all built between 1987 and 1991 and they contain a number of electrolytic capacitors. This type of commonly used capacitor will deteriorate with age and all have a factory-rated finite life-expectancy. Combine that with the fact that many people leave their amps powered-on for years at a time, these electrolytic capacitors were past their end-of-life over fifteen years ago! Long before worn-out electrolytic capacitors lead to reliability issues, they cause the sound of the device to slowly deteriorate as the capacitors' internal leakage increases altering their original specifications.

For this reason alone, there is a huge difference in the sound between a pair JRDG Model 3 power amps, or any power amp for that matter, containing new and modern capacitors as opposed to an amplifier that has never been updated. At this point, every piece of audio equipment over 25 years-old that contains electrolytic capacitors - including every classic Jeff Rowland piece like the Model 3, is past due to have every one of its electrolytic capacitors replaced. Solid-state devices, like diodes, transistors, and FETs, film capacitors, transformers, and the like, for all practical purposes will last forever under normal use.

Just remember, if you find that 25+year old classic piece of equipment that you've always loved, and it's never been at a minimum, "re-capped", be sure to factor in that service on the price since it's going to have be done as soon as it shows up on your door step.

Below is some cut and paste info on the JRDG Model 3:

Features:

- Lack of overall or nested negative feedback eliminates time domain distortion.

- Proprietary distortion canceling techniques minimize amplitude related distortions.

- Each transistor individually tested and matched for optimum operating characteristics.

- Constant output impedance is maintained over the entire audio range, allowing for universal compatibility with associated equipment.

- The large number of high-speed bipolar output transistors provides uncompromising reliability and eliminates the need for electronic protection circuitry.

- A single voltage amplification stage utilizes field effect transistors (operating in transconductance mode), which increases low-level signal recognition.

- The absence of capacitors, inductors, fuses and protection circuitry throughout the signal path eliminates the adverse effects of these devices.

- A specially designed toroidal power transformer is supported by the substantial output stage capability.

- All critical circuitry is encapsulated in a thermally-conductive epoxy to ensure excellent thermal stability, mechanical integrity and to facilitate ease of service.
