KEF Cresta 1 mini-monitor speakers - upgraded with Mundorf crossover parts, Audioquest internal wiring, Cardas top-of-the-line binding posts
The Cresta 1's are about the size of the BBC LS3/5A's. They use a 4 inch KEF B110 mid/woofer and a KEF 1 inch fabric dome tweeter. For a 4 inch woofer, the bass goes to +/- 3 dB at 50 Hz, which is excellent for a 4 inch driver. For comparison, the LS3/5A's are +/- 3 dB at 75 Hz.
The speakers are sequentially serial numbered. 544297F and 544298F.
These speakers have been upgraded and improved with the following upgrades:
1) The crossover parts have been upgraded to Mundorf MCap EVO capacitors and Mundorf MR10 metal oxide resistors. The inductors are the stock KEF units
2) The crossover printed circuit board has been removed and the crossover components are secured and soldered point-to-point
3) Audioquest wiring has been used for internal wiring. It is the GO-4 line, which uses Audioquest's best copper conductor, PSC+, which stands for Perfect Surface Copper + (plus)
4) Cardas top-of-the line CCRR S binding post is used. It is made of copper base metal, not the inferior brass. Then it is plated with silver and then rhodium
5) The Audioquest internal wiring is connected securely and then directly soldered with Cardas solder. The cheap and crappy sounding clip-on connectors were removed
The result of all these upgrades is that these speakers sound fabulous. The bass is excellent and goes fairly low for a 4 inch driver. The mid-range is clear and natural, and the highs are extended, open, yet still sound sweet. They also image and soundstage extremely well. I personally prefer these Cresta 1"s sound presentation better than the classic BBC LS3/5A's.
The drivers, the crossover and the electrical components are perfect. These speakers are near mint. There is only a very small dent on the rear corner of the cabinet of one of the speakers, I have glued the veneer as best as I could. There is also a very small dent on on the back corner of the other speaker. Both dents are small and difficult to see, and being on the rear corner, they are not visible from the front of the speaker.
These speakers have been lovingly cared for.
They come from a smoke free, pet free, and child free home.

Cresta 1

Cresta 1 (1999-2002)
The ultra compact Cresta 1 combined a 25mm fabric dome tweeter with a 100mm (4”) doped paper cone bass midrange driver. Careful and efficient crossover design coupled with critically curved cabinet edges allowed a smooth acoustic response with subsequently detailed and precise stereo imaging.
