This listing is for a vintage Nakamichi 680 stereo cassette deck. The 680 is the simplified version without motor controlled auto azimuth for the record head, it is manually adjusted and accomplishes the same task. The 680 was not produced in large quantities vs the ZX model but still has the same transport, calibration, electronics, and exceptional sound from the cassette format. I can attest that there definitely is a certain desirable flavor to this series of decks.
 
WILLY HERMANN SERVICE PERFORMED:

Dismantled tape transport
Cleaned old lubricant from capstans, hubs, idler, cam mechanism, head block, pinch roller shafts, and rocker arms
Reconditioned pinch rollers
Relubed all as needed
Replaced spooling idler tire, capstan belt, cam belt, and counter belts
Replaced auto stop, cassette well, counter and tape speed lamps with LEDs and modified circuit to accommodate them
Remade azimuth knob and eject lever shaft
Replaced many electronic parts preemptively
Realigned tape path guides and head depth and zenith
Adjusted transport stop, cue, and play points
Reset head height and azimuth
Adjusted test tone and meter calibration
Calibrated deck for all three tape types
Replaced source/tape switch tip
Verified that deck now meets original specifications
Tested machine for correct function both cold and hot

I have played a wide variety of cassettes and recorded with both tape speeds. Dolby tracking spot on; I did not alter the position of record head azimuth or record level calibration potentiometers they are preserved from WHS service for EX SX ZX types. This deck is a joy you will find yourself playing tape after tape rediscovering your collection.
 
Cosmetic condition is exceptional with very little signs of use. No dirt, no nicotine contamination, no cracks or broken pieces, no dents, no dings, fresh looking cabinet, face, and graphics. This is a one-owner deck that was stored for the last 20 years unused prior to WHS service.
 
Included will be a copy of the owner manual, the WHS repair receipt, WHS Performance Verification report, and the old parts that were removed. This will be expertly double box packed with all new ULINE heavy-duty materials or safe transit.
