Questions for the seller
Same compatibility questions I have for the Helicon. Is 60db gain enough for it or is a step-up transformer needed? How does the sound of this differ from the Helicon or a Soundsmith Zephyr?
Hello, The gain 60db is good even for 0.1-0.2 mV. This cartridges have output of 0.5 mV. It would be perfect. You wouldn't stress it more than half way. As for compliance- both cartridges are in a sweet spot for almost any modern VPI tonearms. The VPI arms effective mass form 7.7g to 12g. The Skala and Helikon right on the spot. Skala has better dynamics than Helikon. Images are focused and the same as Helikon. They are both similar soundpattern, but as I said Skala is more alive. Zephyr has muddy mids, flat soundstage and it's way below both Lyras.
