Townshend has optimised a solution that employs a low pass mechanical filter, comprising mass, compliance and proportional damping, which isolates from 3.5Hz and up in all three planes, up/down, left/right and back/forth. A movement-sensitive, air-resistance damper rapidly dissipates low frequency oscillation caused by disturbing the suspended equipment. Townshend incorporates the Seismic Load Cell as the core element within the Seismic Vibration Isolation range designed to optimise all Hi-Fi components
Other isolation systems, although good for some limited resonances, will inherently ignore others within the audio-band resulting in a job half done. Polymers, blocks of granite known as Inertia blocks, Bungy cords and all manner of exotic materials will only offer limited results. The Theory of More Stuff by Proff.Jack Dinsdale reasons why these technologies are limited when striving for the complete interruption of resonance within the audio band.

Townshend Seismic products have been designed to decouple audio components from external mechanical vibrations above 3Hz, a frequency chosen to be well below the audio band, but high enough to filter out virtually all unwanted vibrations such as footsteps, doors closing, lifts operating and global seismic effects. These Seismic Isolation products use a damped mass-spring system which is easy to adjust to suit the weights of a wide range of audio components and a revelation in sound quality. We work closely with clients to find the right load mass solution for you and continue until all unwanted vibrational resonances are eliminated from the audio chain. giving clearer and greater musicality to your cherished music library.

  • Produce a wider and deeper sound stage.
  • Enhance clarity throughout the whole frequency range.
  • Improve bass definition.
  • Eliminate structure-borne feedback between the speaker and vibration-sensitive equipment.
  • Allow for neighbour-friendly high-level listening.
  • Eliminate irritating boom caused by coupling through the floor to adjacent rooms.

The Seismic Bars add a mere 2cm to the height of a loudspeaker. This is important not just for obvious centre-of-gravity reasons but because boundary proximity affects low-frequency performance, so raising a speaker too far will make for a leaner bass than originally intended.

Seismic speaker Isolation Bars are designed to break the acoustic connection between speakers and the floor, thus preventing the passage of unwanted vibration between the two. Used in pairs under any speaker, whether floor-standing or stand-mounted, including sub-woofers. They are used in pairs under any speaker, whether floor-standing, stand-mounted or a sub-woofer. Due to the exceptionally compliant nature of the Seismic Load Cells, the speakers effectively float in the room at frequencies above 3 Hz. Each bar comprises a strong steel cross-piece with raised ends under which two Seismic Load Cells are attached.

Each bar comprises a strong steel cross-bar with raised ends attached to two Seismic Load Cells.
When installed, you experience The Townshend effect; the sound improves dramatically, with a wider width and greater depth and becomes independent of the speakers. Bass becomes tighter and more natural, with thuddy boom eliminated. A significant plus is that the speakers' sound is no longer transmitted through the structure of the building, so your neighbours can no longer hear your music.
Conventional so-called rigid supports (spikes or cones) aim to hold the speaker cabinet "still" at audio frequencies. However, there will be a resonance set up by the cabinet's mass reacting with the floor's unavoidable springiness, which can cause vibration of the building structure in the audio band. Rigid coupling also transmits ground-bourne vibration into the speaker cabinet and thence to the speaker driver baskets, which are superimposed onto the music. By using Seismic Isolation Bars, you will be able to enjoy your music at its natural volume- as if you were listening to a live performance-without annoying the neighbours

"Townshend Seismic Speaker Bars produce a result that goes way beyond what you might expect from ‘speakers on springs’. To get an improvement in absolute resolution, precision of timing and solidity of stereo image from something so apparently simple is extraordinary. These things really do change the game, move the goalposts, and revolutionise the way we should think about speaker support. This is not an accessory… it’s an essential." Jason Kennedy HIFI+
