Between the time I posted this ad last night and this morning, the foam surround of one of the PM2A cones was bumped and damaged.  There’s a tear in the foam now.   it still sounds fine because the foam was damaged, not the cone.   However, yesterday the cone was undamaged, today it is damaged.

these are quick photos, not highlighting each cabinet properly.  The tear in the foam is in 2 photos.

Therefore this is not the moment to buy these speakers  I’ve downgraded the condition rating to reflect this.  I’ll have to figure out the proper way to account for it.  I’m thinking I’ll discount the price by the cost of reconing the drivers.

I expect to have photos posted today, including clear photos of the damage.
————————————————————————-
These horn loudspeakers were designed by Dr. Bruce Edgar, built by Moth Audio and purchased directly from Craig Uthus.  I’m selling them with their Lowther PM2A drivers. I purchased them for use with low powered SET amps, but I have instead used them with a Naim Unity Qute. I think the pairing is wonderful.  The sound is rich, textural, dynamic, etched, pure. The cabinets are built of unfinished plywood.  They’re extremely strong and in great shape structurally. The surfaces show some wear and dirt from years of display and use.

The Lowther PM2A drivers are included.  When I received them from Moth, at least one of the cones had gone bad, so I reconed them.  They’ve sounded brilliant ever since, with eerie stereo imaging and the “hallucinogenic” Lowther sound (which I think results from their exceptional speed and dynamics.) I’ll ship them in their original Lowther boxes, but here’s the thing-Craig Uthus shipped me good cones and at least one arrived damaged, no fault of his.  So we can agree these speakers are fragile. I attest the cones are in good condition now, but I will not guarantee how they will arrive at your place.  You may have to recone them at your own expense just as I had to recone them at my expense when I got them. Sorry, but these are the terms of this sale.

About the model:  I believe I remember talking to Craig Uthus about “L70” and “L90” horns, so called due to the respective bass extension.  These are the 70hz version.  I do not know where, if anywhere these horns fit into Dr Edgar’s model framework.  I have used them very successfully with a Hsu subwoofer, judiciously adjusted to approach the 70hz cutoff without overlap.  To my ear I could mate them with no “bump” or heaviness in the sound.

These particular cabinets are unfinished plywood.  I’ve attached a photo of one way Moth Audio finished them in a brilliant retro-futuristic, Jules Verne, Wild Wild West fantasy. Just to see what you could do….

These will have to be crated and shipped.  I’ll do that at my expense. If you are able to do local pickup, you’ll be able to hear them first, plus I’ll give you a discount for the shipping I’d otherwise have to pay.

Questions for the seller
you know that you have these listed in the speaker cable category, which of course is not correct. just thought you might want to know so you can fix it. go into your listing, click edit...then find the correct category under speakers.
I thought the category selection menu seemed odd. Thanks, I’ll go correct that now.
