Very rare, vintage Sherwood Micro CPU 100 tuner designed and manufactured by DRACO.  Critically acclaimed when it was introduced in 1977 for $2,000 ($9,656 in today's dollars!)  This was the first tuner to utilize a computer microprocessor.  In 1977 the only mass market consumer products that had microprocessors were calculators.

In very good cosmetic condition for a vintage unit: the only blemish is a small chip on the wood veneer on the side of the case.  According to Stereo Review (Jan. 1978)  "It is so outstanding in so many ways it is difficult to avoid the overuse of superlatives in describing it"  "absolutely flat frequency response"  "Its sound distortion ... is lower than can be measured with a Sound Technology signal generator" "[This] is the best available FM tuner... even if it lacked its special computer functions".

The tuner has two problems that I'm aware of, both caused by a leak in the battery that serves the memory function.  That leak damaged one of the circuit boards.  First, the digital displays of the station call letters and frequency do not function properly.  This does not effect the sound, tuning function or even the analog LED display of the frequency.  The second problem is that the station presets don't work.  Again, this does not effect the outstanding performance of the tuner in any other way.

We are only  the second owners of this tuner, having received it as a bequest from a friend who purchased it new.  The battery leak happened on his watch, and his local repair shop did not have the expertise to fix it.  He did not see any point in repairing it, since he kept it locked on 89.5 FM (WQED Pittsburgh - classical music 24 hours a day).  The wiring diagrams are now available (see fmtunerinfo.com) which may facilitate repair.
