A beautiful pair of Verity Audio Parsifal Ovation speakers in the extra cost Makore lacquer finish.  Your wife will love their appearance.  These speakers were designed to have a small footprint yet produce world class sound that rivals much larger and more intrusive speakers.  Backward firing woofers (although the bass units can be rotated to fire in front) -- produce strong bass -- specified down to 25 hz.  And the bass response can be increased by placing the speakers closer to the back wall. 
Unlike many expensive speakers,they are reasonably light and can be easily carried.  All in all, a rather ingenious and flexible design.  None of this matters unless they sound great, and of course they do!  They have transparency and speed that matches many planars, and level top-to-bottom tonal balance with a sweet top end.  They are moderately efficient, but seem happier with solid state amplification or larger tube amps
