This ad is for a pair of one owner Marantz Imperial Model 5G speakers in superb unrestored condition.
These speakers were proudly made in the USA and were some of the first high fidelity offerings from designer Saul Marantz in the early days of American electronics.
These speakers have survived in nearly perfect condition and represent a look back at just how good American Audio was back in the early days.
The sonic signature of the Marantz Imperial 5G is more like an AR than an Advent...eg: they are very open, clear, and dynamic...as opposed to soft, laid back and mellow.
If you have a vintage turntable, and enjoy vinyl records played back through warm, smooth sounding tube gear, you will really enjoy the resolution and imaging of these speakers.
The only flaw is that they are missing their grilles...which were made of brittle foam, and were prone
to deteriorating into dust after 15 years or so...that's what happened to mine.
In every other way, the speakers look and sound superb, and are all original.
The drivers in this bookshelf sized 2 way speaker system include a 1.75 inch phenolic ring tweeter, and a 7 inch paper cone woofer with Butyl rubber surround.
The tweeters have a 3 way switch to manipulate the high frequency response...
This makes the speaker sound more open with tubes and vinyl, or softer with solid state electronics and digital sources.
The cabinets are free from marks, or dings, and the veneer is excellent.
Dimensions are 23 x 12 x 9.5, and the serial numbers are 83895, 83896.
