This is a fantastic example of the MS300. It is in 9/10 condition for age. The unit is SPOTLESS. No scratches. No dints, nicks, anything. Maybe some rub marks on the connections in back.
I took this unit back in trade from the original owner. We did not sell it to him and the original dealer didn't support the product well. That is unfortunate for the original owner but somewhat beneficial for you since due to his frustration with the menu system he maybe has 50 hours on the machine and mainly just playing CD's.
We have tried everything on the unit. The display works through Component and Composite video. The menu system works exactly as it did when new. The music on the unit plays perfectly and the search functions are perfect. The tray and transport are flawless. CD's play perfect.
We sold a few Escient Fireballs back when the company was still in business. I know how some of those units were buggy and didn't work. Mac went the extra distance on this unit. Better DAC, better output stages, better quality everywhere they could. A HUGE benefit for the MS300 is that Mac used Military spec hard drives and larger drives than the original Escient. Therefore you most likely will be able to use this unit for years without having to worry about the hard drive failing. Mac gear almost never fails. And they wanted to ensure as best they could that carried through to the Mac servers as well.
The Grace Note meta data service for these units no longer functions. When Escient folded so did the link to that service. HOWEVER, you can still load discs and enter the metadata manually with the keyboard. Also, the music services do not work but they are all pointing at internet feeds that are 10 years old. You may be able to enter station IP info manually and get that feature working. Again, stored music works flawlessly and quickly.
If you have a separate DAC this unit works well through its digital output as well. Makes a great Mac CD transport.
The only draw back is that the owner cannot find the original inner box. He provided the outer, along with all accessories, manual, remote, keyboard etc. Keyboard shows no signs of use. I almost hated using it to test the unit, it is so perfect.
The ONLY flaw is the remote. These remotes we made of a weird gummy, tactile plastic. It almost seems like rubber. It is very sticky. We have tried to clean it but it stays gummy. There is no way to change that. However, it functions and controls the unit perfectly.
Audio classics, the main authorized Mac restorer advertises this unit for $1,100 with slight scratches etc. $700 for one that is locked up / non functioning.
