Founded in 1996 by Lawrence Liao, Lawrence Audio has created an exquisite line up of eye-catching and beautiful sounding loudspeakers including several modeled after actual musical instruments. “The Mandolin is a stand-mounted two-way design that uses a rear slot port. The stands also follow this design concept and blend perfectly with the lines of the speaker. The Mandolins are directly bolted into the top of the stands for both safety and damping purposes. Each speaker weighs 26.5 pounds and measure 22 inches tall by nine inches wide and 11.5 inches deep. The Mandolin's frequency range is 45Hz to 40 KHz. Its sensitivity is 89dB (2.83V/1m). The speaker's impedance is rated at 8 ohms (minimum 6.4 ohms), which makes the Mandolin a very easy speaker to drive, and it uses very high-quality drivers. The tweeter is a five-inch aluminum ribbon and the mid-woofer is a six-and-a-half-inch cone that is composed of non-woven carbon and Kevlar."

“There are a couple of two-way stand mounts in the $5,000 price range of the Mandolins that I have auditioned that I believe are its major competitors. These are the Vivid V-1.5, valued at $7,650, and the Bowers & Wilkins 805 Diamond at $5,000. Personally, I have never really enjoyed my time with the Vivid V-1.5. I found its tonality, regardless of the amps used, to be too cold and clinical for my personal listening preferences. The Bowers & Wilkins 805 Diamond is much closer to the overall sonic perspective of the Mandolin regarding overall timbres and tonality. However, the Mandolin goes deeper, with greater dynamics and more precise micro-details, because of its remarkable transparency".
"The house sound is present in the "baby sister," with the Mandolin having rich, natural tonality and timbres and great liquidity. Its ease lets the music fill the room. It has great clarity, details, and very good dynamics for a small two-way monitor."
