The 2013 TAS Editor's Choice had this to say:
"Sonus Faber has successfully incorporated the sonic virtues of the floorstanding Liuto into the smaller Monitor. Hewing to the SF company line, the Monitor first focuses on capturing the natural richness and a bit of the romance of live music throughout the midrange. Part Renaissance lute, part rocker, the Liuto Monitor is one of the most elegant and versatile small speakers available."
I purchased these speakers from one of the largest Sonus Faber dealers in the nation. The original owner traded them in for other equipment. The speakers were virtually new when I got them and are still in excellent condition. There are no sonic or cosmetic flaws. Since I am not the original owner, I am rating them 8/10. I think they are truly a 9. The Liutos were hand-crafted in Italy.
There are a couple of tiny nicks on the edges of the speaker stands. These are almost impossible to see. The grille cloth is essentially perfect.
The speakers came with the factory stand uprights and metal platform on which the speakers sit. The dealer did not have the original metal bases however, so I designed a pair using 2” thick old growth maple that was sourced from Mapleshade Audio.
I finished the wood bases using hand-rubbed Danish oil to closely match the cherry color of the speakers. There are four ¼- 20 inserts on the bottom of each base which accept the spikes or cones of your choice. Bases measure about 18" long and taper from 14.5" to 10.5" wide. Speakers will ship in a Sonus Faber monitor factory box, manual, and cloth covers. The info on the box says "smoked oak", the speakers are cherry.
Our home is non-smoking. The only reason I am selling is that I recently purchased a pair of Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor M’s.
I am located on Bainbridge Island in the Seattle area and can meet within a reasonable distance. I’m guessing that shipping in continental US via Fed Ex or UPS would be approximately $100.00. Both speakers fit the single factory box. The speaker stands and heavy maple bases might have to go into two separate boxes. If you don't want the stands, shipping would be approximately $60.00
I rarely buy and sell audio equipment but have 2 perfect transactions here and 134 perfect transactions on eBay.
