"In a July 5, 1867 letter to Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, Modest Mussorgsky wrote "(I have) finished St. John's Night on Bald Mountain, a musical picture with the following program: (1) assembly of the witches, their chatter and gossip; (2) cortege of Satan; (3) unholy gratification of Satan; and (4) witches' sabbath." Mussorgsky proclaims "in form and character my composition is Russian and original. Its tone is hot and chaotic.... St. John's Night is something new and is bound to produce a satisfactory impression....". - AMG.

The full power and weight of the Orchestra are captured on this LP. The dynamic range goes form dead-silence to thundering Crescendos. Bass is very deep and highly detailed, the mids are slightly warm and smooth and the treble is open and transparent. The soundstage is wide and deep as well as highly defined and individual instruments clearly define their own space and position. A truely exceptional recording.
Very slight surface noise - barely audible on a few random, very quiet passages only.
Each record is washed on a VPI cleaning machine using a proprietary 3-5 agent process which is determined by the needs of the individual record. Each record is then listened to 100% to insure that the posted description is exactly what you can expect to get.
