1. The 384 kHz upsampling upgrade ($1395) This upgrade replaces the input board and adds some amazing features to the Platinum DAC models I to III. All inputs can be upsampled using the front panel button. This upgrade offers several advancements: It upsamples 44.1, 88.2 and 176.4 to 352.8 kHz at a resolution of 32 bits, and it upsamples 48, 96 and 192 to 384 kHz at a resolution of 32 bits. Upsampled frequency is shown on the display. The SP/DIF inputs are also upgraded to accept up to 384 kHz signals.
2. Signature DAC upgrade ($6995) Our signature DAC upgrade provides hand matched DAC modules for superior sound quality. These DACs can run at twice the speed (384 kHz sampling rate) with half the settling time. The noise level is cut to 1/3 the normal value and the signal-to-noise ratio is up to 140 db.
3. 32X Digital Filter uprgrade ($3495): Our 16x filter contained 3200 taps, a very large sample and worked well. The Signature Filter contains and amazing 6000 taps, and the increased size of the filter more closely approximates the ideal filter. Immediately you can hear the increased clarity of the music. MSB has applied noise shaping technology, not directly to the audio as SACD and Delta Sigma DACs do but to the actual digital filter. This novel approach reduces that digital harshness without loss of detail or focus. Just as glasses bring an image into focus for eyes that are not perfect, we have applied a corrective algorithm to the slight imperfections specifically found in our DAC architecture. This new innovation focuses the instruments more accurately on the soundstage. We all know how important clock jitter is. The signature Digital Filter reduces clock jitter by another 50% to an unbelievably low level.
4. Stepped Attenuator ($1595) Our Preamp philosophy is based on the belief that from the moment analog audio is created; every transition that is made degrades the quality. This is why we have used a passive attenuator within the Platinum DAC IV, to achieve the simplest, shortest possible signal path with the least possible degradation of the true music. The Volume is controlled in 2 dB steps from 0 to -68 dB. The Volume Control is completely bypassed when at 0 dB.
