We have just finished our Level-1 mod to the Music Hall CD-15.2. The 15.2 got a very good review in Stereophile by Sam Tellig. It is our favorite under $500.00 CD player.

The mod takes it to the next level and allows it to compete with Solid state players that sell for up to $1500.00.

The mod was designed by Chris Johnson, the founder and former president of Sonic Frontiers.

The following details the Level-1 mod:

a) Two dual configured smt-style Burr-Brown OPA-627 op amps are fitted on a custom DIP adapter module and replace the inexpensive dual opamps used in output buffer stage of the stock model.

b) Ten Japanese-made TAKMAN �REY series� 1% metal film audio-grade signal path ¼ & ½ watt resistors replace inexpensive parts in unit�s output stage. These new resistors are ultra-low noise parts.)

c) Four NICHICON �ES series� (Non-Polar) audio-grade electrolytic coupling capacitors are used in the unit�s output stage. These are super low ESL & ESR.

d) Four EAR �small� compliant sorbothane isolation feet replace the plastic stock feet to damp external vibration.

e) Two sheets of SOUNDCOAT dampening material are added to dramatically reduce chassis resonances

f) Ten feet of WBT Solder is used in the mod.

g) The mod takes 3.5 hours to complete and test.

The 12-month Music Hall factory warranty is good on the modified players.


SONIC CHANGES of the LEVEL 1 MODIFICATION
-The unit is Quieter....the BLACK�s are BLACKER...thus, resolving more low level detail and ambience retrieval.
-It is Smoother....but more detailed......while at the same time More dynamic....
-The Midrange is more natural with less electronic glare...this midrange performance is what you typically spend big bucks to get in solid state machines.
-Imaging is improved...it's more defined while front to back depth is improved.
-Bass is improved....It has fuller weight and authority...
