The D150C is the flagship amplifier produced by audio designer/builder John Hillig of Musical Design. This amp was custom built for the original owner in 2002 and was just rebuilt/upgraded last year to the highest build level John has available. I was planning on keeping this workhorse for a future project, ( I still have one of John's smaller amps in my main near field system) but financial pressure is forcing the sale of any extra gear in my stable. This is a class A/AB Mosfet amplifier. Only rating 8/10 because I'm not the original owner. When I contacted John about the build for this ad, he replied: ".......Wow not too many of those around. You can add "very rare, limited original production" to your ad. Rick had multiple amps and preamps from us. The amp began life as a Platinum Ultra which indicates the full Platinum resistor complement, actually really expensive Tantalum Nitride parts like those used in the finest AudioNote products. It also denoted a full complement of BlackGate caps including the four 10,000uF power supply caps. This would have Ixys FRED rectifier diodes powering the dual-mono power supply - recall that the power transformer has two totally separated secondary windings. There was a later update to the amp which has converted the driver boards to our newer, even more neutral sounding Elite Ultra specs featuring the Elna Silmic II caps. The main power supply still remains as the Platinum Ultra configuration. If you want to mention it there is a new driver transistor modification which makes quite a difference in sense of solidity, clarity, neutrality, detailing and feeling of projected power Specs? Well beyond 150W/CH@8 Ohms ........" If you're familiar with John's top level builds, then you know how good this amplifier is. If you're not familiar with his gear and you're considering the purchase of a large "name brand" amp like McIntosh, Krell, Bryston, etc., I assure you this amp can outperform amps with twice it's retail price. All the descriptives apply. Effortless, detailed, 3 dimensional, tube like smoothness without any grain or harshness, etc, etc. Beautifully designed and executed build by an audiophile/engineer. John tests all the parts used in his equipment by ear, and selects only the best matching components for his top level builds. A local sale in the D.C. metro area with audition, is welcome.
