Album Notes
"Someone To Tell It To", "The End Of A Love Affair" & "If Love Ain't There" were previously released on WHERE DID EVERYONE GO?Personnel includes: Nat "King" Cole (vocals); Gordon Jenkins (conductor).Recorded at Capitol Tower Studios, Hollywood, California in December, 1956.Released in the days when albums were not promoted by extracting individual tracks and issuing them as singles, this was the first opportunity that young record-buyers had of hearing Nat Cole sing "When I Fall In Love" and "Stardust," songs with which he would forever be identified. Composer Hoagy Carmichael, who wrote "Stardust" with Mitchell Parish, always maintained that this version, complete with the lovely verse, was his personal favourite. Of all the singer's varied albums---jazz, 'soft' country, easy listening--LOVE IS THE THING, which spent 55 weeks in the US Top 40, was the only one that went to number 1, where it stayed for eight weeks. Very transparent, scary real with the right system.
